Apparently my kids want to be like their dad. I can’t say I blame them. I mean, I think he’s pretty awesome.

I have to say, I particularly love this next photo. Dan captured a similar photo of SweetPea and me sleeping in identical positions when she was only a few months old too. It’s kind of precious. So I was really excited when I saw the boys sleeping like this. I had to, just had to take a picture.

Folks, we’ve had a baby breakthrough!
Our little Bub is exactly two weeks old today. And today is the first day he’s stayed asleep for longer than 5 minutes while not being held or in direct contact with somebody…usually me. That means, for two weeks he was constantly being held. Which was great…except for when it wasn’t…like when I had to pee, or take care of SweetPea, or eat, or get more water, or move in general.
But no more! Today he slept for 1 hour in his swing! One whole hour where I had my body to myself, where I was able to do what I wanted, when I wanted. It was glorious. I can’t wait to do it again tomorrow.
Now I like banana bread. And I especially like banana bread when it has chocolate chips in it. How could you possibly beat a recipe that is chocolate chocolate banana bread? That’s right, you can’t.
I found this recipe here and couldn’t resist making it. Especially as fall approaches. The days are still pretty warm around these parts, but the nights are cooling into those crisp fall nights that give the perfect goosebumps…just thinking about those nights makes me want to bake apples or make pumpkin cookies…I guess we know what’s going to pop up soon on this blog…but anyways. Cool nights just beg for warm baked goods and hence this banana bread was baked.
I actually baked this early in the morning. Why? Because I’m pregnant and that makes sleep elusive. So instead of laying in bed hoping to fall back asleep I got up and started baking.
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup applesauce
3 mashed bananas
1 tsp vanilla extract
1.5 cups flour
1/2 cup baking cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Spray bottom of 8×4 inch loaf pan with cooking spray.
In large bowl, beat sugar, eggs, and applesauce. Beat in banana and vanilla.
Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
Mix flour mixture into banana mixture until just combined.
Fold in chocolate chips.
Spoon batter into pan. Bake about 1 hour or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
Cool for 10 minutes. Remove from pan; cool completely on wire rack.
Enjoy. Enjoy with vanilla ice cream. Or on it’s own. Or as a ridiculously decadent and chocolately french toast. Or on it’s own.

When you’re almost 38 weeks pregnant and you can’t sleep, taking a bath might seem like a good idea. Until you wake up an hour later in cold water wondering why the heck you ever thought this was a good idea.
