Why you should make green smoothies?

IMG_0440Not just for yourself, but also for your loved ones.  Especially your toddlers.  Probably the biggest and best reason for this is because they are delicious.  A close second is they are super healthy.  And coming in right behind that, it’s an easy way to teach kids they like spinach!

My recipe is super easy.  And super duper delicious.  And SweetPea asks for it, on a regular basis.  And if I try to make some just for me, she won’t stand for it.  And who am I to say no when my kid asks for some of my vegetable yumminess?

If you haven’t already jumped on the green smoothie band wagon, now’s the time!

Green Smoothie Recipe

1 cup orange juice
2 bananas
2-3 handfuls of spinach
1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)

Put the orange juice and spinach in a blender, blend until smooth.  Add bananas.  Blend.  Add chia seeds.  Blend.  Serve and enjoy.

The most important thing when making a green smoothie is blend the liquid (juice, water, milk, whatever you choose) and the greens BEFORE adding anything else.  Or you end up with confetti in your mouth.  Now this may sound like a party, but it’s not.  It’s actually awful.  However if you blend the greens before adding in banana or fruit or ice it will turn out smooth, amazing, and oh-so-good.

The second most important thing is to make enough to share.  Or you won’t get enough.  You will, however, have a kid with a pretty awesome green smoothie mustache.  Which is pretty awesome.

Who doesn’t love exploding art?

IMG_0452

Not me.  I love exploding art.  I didn’t know I loved it until a couple days ago.

But then I tried it and realized that hey, if it explodes it’s probably fun.  Also, SweetPea liked it.  So that means we’ll get to do more exploding art.  Which is kind of awesome.

I might be a wee bit addicted to pinterest…but in my defense I actually use a lot of the recipes and kid activities I pin.  So I justify my time on pinterest.  It enhances my life.  And my kids’ lives.  And it’s amazing.  Hold up, I need to pin something…

Anyway, I found this activity for erupting apple sidewalk chalk paint and thought it was amazing.  So naturally I had to try it out.  Fortunately it was very easy to set up.  And it was super fun.  For both kid and Mom.

I would highly recommend you try it.  I might even go so far as to suggest that those of you with kids should definitely try it, everyone else should do it just for themselves.  Because it’s paint.  And it explodes.  And that’s kind of awesome.

RoW80 – Stop and Go

Cool-Modern-Bedroom-Designs-with-Girls-on-Beaches-Wall-Murals-and-Elegant-White-Bedding-Sets

This is how it feels to sleep in a clean bedroom. No, seriously, this amazing.

This week felt rather frustrating and like I wasn’t getting anywhere.  But when it comes down to it, I had a couple highly productive days and a couple not so productive days…but only if we’re talking writing.

1.  I’m still on track for doing NaNoWriMo.  My outlining and character sketches are becoming much more solid.  I have a very clear idea of the story, where it’s going, and how it gets there.  I also am starting to figure out what happens after the story, which is amazing, because it’s giving me huge HUGE insight into the characters during the story.  So this goal is coming right along.

2.  DONE!!! Final conflict/resolution are plotted.  Plotted, I tell you, plotted.  So, I’ve been on a bit of a writer’s high from that.

3.  1000 words, 3 days a week.  Like last week, I didn’t get 1000 words over 3 days, but I still got my 3000 words.  So I say (again) that I completed the heart of this goal.

4.  Still not rereading.  But gearing up to.  After all, now that I’ve finished the outlining, I need to start rereading to so I can start writing that first draft.

5.  And still no flash fiction.  Dang it, but oh well.  My other goals have much higher priority.  And we’ll see what this week’s inspiration is, hopefully it gets the creative juices flowing and I’ll come up with something good.  If not, eh…

But, besides writing, I spent the last two whole days cleaning.  Yay!  Except not so fun.  But now that it’s done, yay!  I love sleeping in a clean room.  And some of the stuff I got taken care of has just been sitting in boxes, hidden in rooms, since we moved in…over 4 months ago!  So it needed to get taken care of, and now it is.  And now I feel so much more relaxed in my home.  Also, is there anything better than sleeping in clean pajamas, clean sheets, in a completely clean room?  No, there is not.  Go on, try it.  It’s amazing, maybe even addictive.  Too bad I have 2 munchkins who actively try to keep things messy.  Oh well.  The door to my bedroom is closed so I’ll get one more night in a perfectly clean room.

First Birthday!!

IMG_0340

This post is a little late going up.  But last month we celebrated our Bub’s first birthday.

Unsurprisingly, we’ve been busy.  So getting pictures up took a little longer than I would have liked.

But on to the show!

There were presents.  And Bub loved them, so did his sister, SweetPea 🙂 .  But even better than presents were chocolate cupcakes.  With pink frosting, of course.  And yes, SweetPea did pick out both the flavor of the cupcakes AND the color of the frosting.  Bub can pick those things next year, you know, when he’s talking.

This next picture proves that Bub is my child.  I make that same face every time I eat chocolate.  Every single time.  It’s just so dang good.IMG_0401

This next picture proves that Bub is related to my husband.  He does the same thing whenever he eats chocolate.  Or spaghetti for that matter.  That’s actually not true, he’s a bit of freak about getting food on his hands and face.

But this face is why we love him so!

Also this face.

Happy Birthday Bub!  We’re so lucky to have two wonderful kids.  And here’s to lots more crazy, messy, wonderful adventures. I hope you all are enjoying your families and your chocolate as much as I am.

Wanna Be Like Dad

Apparently my kids want to be like their dad.  I can’t say I blame them.  I mean, I think he’s pretty awesome.

I have to say, I particularly love this next photo.  Dan captured a similar photo of SweetPea and me sleeping in identical positions when she was only a few months old too.  It’s kind of precious.  So I was really excited when I saw the boys sleeping like this.  I had to, just had to take a picture.

Due Dates and Other Such Nonsense

Well, today’s my due date.

And all signs are pointing to my still being pregnant tomorrow.

Yay.

I have, however, decided to do some “research” on natural ways to induce labor.  Pretty much, I’m going to tell my husband that anything I like will help speed the process up.

Yep, mini french silk pie blizzards help women go into labor.  Barbecued hamburgers also have been known to help.  Back massages, too.  Watching partners vacuum and mop is great for inducing labor in the pregnant woman.  Rereading favorite books can also be beneficial when trying to speed up the laboring process.  Sleeping in and being served breakfast in bed is almost a surefire way to get labor going in a high percentage of women.

Am I missing anything?
